The state Department of Health issued a green placard to Cafe Mambo on Monday, allowing it to reopen to the public after an infestation of roaches forced its closure on March 14.

The department conducted a follow-up inspection on Friday and found that Cafe Mambo had received professional pesticide treatments since the closure. The Paia restaurant will have another within one week and will continue monthly into the future. It also received an overall cleaning to reduce grease buildup and eliminate food debris.

Screens were installed to both entrances to the kitchen to exclude entry of pests.

DOH, which had also noted improper cold food storage during the March 14 inspection, said that all refrigeration units cited previously were observed to be holding at 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
