ORIGIN
Chyna was a former professional wrestler, actress, and bodybuilder. She was born Joan Marie Laurer on December 27, 1969, in Rochester, New York. Her parents were Joseph and Janet Laurer. She had two siblings, Kathy and Sonny. Chyna attended Penfield High School followed by the University of Tampa. She graduated in 1992 with a degree in Spanish Literature. She joined the Peace Corps upon graduation and was assigned to Guatemala. At one point she worked as a waitress, a belly dancer, and as a chat line worker.

CAREER
Chyna began her wrestling career in the mid-1990s. She trained at Wladek “Killer” Kowalski’s wrestling school and fought her first match in 1995. Chyna made her WWF debut two years later in 1997 at In Your House 13: Final Four. She was billed as the “Ninth Wonder of the World” and was a member of D-Generation X. Chyna became the first female in 1999 to compete in the Royal Rumble. She went on to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship twice and the WWF Women’s Championship once. Chyna left wrestling in 2001 but returned briefly for New Japan Pro Wrestling (2002) and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2011).

One of Chyna’s earliest television role was in a 1996 episode of Pacific Blue. In 2000, she played the character “Janice” in the sitcom, 3rd Rock from the Sun. She was featured on The Howard Stern Show that same year. Chyna starred in season 4 of the reality series, The Surreal Life. Other appearances include the shows My Fair Brady, and Celebrity Rehab, and the films Just Another Romantic Wrestling Comedy, and Cougar Club (2007).

PERSONAL
Chyna died on April 17, 2016, at the age of 46. No official cause of death was reported. However, she was taking medication for anxiety and sleep deprivation. She passed away at her home in Redondo Beach, California. Chyna was 5ft 10in tall and had a net worth of $1.5 million. She dated wrestlers Triple H and Sean Waltman.
